Technical Discovery

The below examples show how important a skill it is to recognise the manufacturing/assembly intent of a product when designing it. Within the research stage, existing products are often investigated and disassembled to fully understand internal components and how they fit [and are held] within a design.

Examples shown here show some of the initial technical investigation work, drawing work within concept development to prove fit and then final design visuals showing internal construction undertaken in my projects.

Cordless Power Drill Technical Discovery

Drill Research 3.png

Initial technical investigation of internal components and confidence of fit models throughout the project helped to create a drill design which held all the parts required. A full scale 3D print including these components confirmed the process was successful. [Year 4, 2022]

Portable BBQ Technical Discovery

Refined exploded view and final product exploded view of a Portable BBQ design. The final view matches parts to a list describing manufacturing intent of each component. [Year 3, 2021]

EV Charger Technical Discovery

Refinement of design to map out component fit within the box unit including internal component measurements lead to a successful final fit.      [Year 3, 2020]

Fizzy Drink Maker Technical Discovery

A technical discovery was undertaken of an existing design of a Fizzy Drink Maker, which enabled designs to work around these. Prior to the CAD being produced, another exploded sketch was produced of how my proposed design would hold all of the internals. [Year 2, 2019]
